2011 Chinese GP – Race Results

Lewis Hamilton took a sensational win at the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai today, beating the much vaunted Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel into second. Mark Webber made a brilliant come-back from 18th on the grid to 3rd place at the flag, just seven seconds behind the winner. Jenson Button was fourth, after a superb start by both McLarens saw him lead Hamilton and Vettel on the first lap.

Nico Rosberg was fifth after some fine driving put him in the lead of the race for most of the afternoon. Behind him came the Ferraris in 6th and 7th, a disappointing race for the Italian team, ahead of the Mercedes of Schumacher who leapt from 14th on the start line to 8th at the finish.  Petrov and Kobayashi rounded off the top 10.

The Force Indias and Toro Rossos, despite running high at the start, fell back as the race progressed and mixed it up with Heidfeld and the Williams men. Heikki Kovalainen finished ahead of a Sauber and a Williams, bringing a lot of smiles on the Lotus pitwall. Surprisingly, there was just one retirement, Alguersuari after a wheel came loose on his Toro Rosso after his first pitstop.
