2011 Spanish GP – Friday Practice 1 Results

Red Bull Racing made a perfect start to their Spanish GP weekend with their cars putting in the fastest lap times in the first free practice session here at the Circuit de Catalunya. Surprisingly, it was the RB7 of Mark Webber which topped the timesheets, rather than his team mate who has been unbeatable this season so far. This is the track in which Webber finally turned the tables on Sebastian last season, and maybe he’s found his ‘zone’ again. But the reigning world champion was over a second adrift, which really is impossible on pure pace.

2011 Turkish GP – Friday Practice 1 Results

The first practice session for the Turkish Grand Prix got off to a wet start and the teams were able to sample Pirelli’s wet weather tyres for the first time this year. Fernando Alonso was the fastest man in today’s morning run, despite complaining of poor grip on the intermediates. He was also the only driver to dip below the 1:40s mark, with a 1:38.670 lap. Rosberg and Schumacher put in a lot of mileage and finished second and third fastest, followed by the two Renault cars, Heidfeld ahead of Petrov. With changing conditions, however, not much can be read into these laptimes. In circumstances such as these, usually the fastest drivers are those who got the best of the conditions to run in.

2011 Chinese GP – Friday Practice 1 Results

The first practice session for the Chinese GP saw Sebastian Vettel continuing his strong form in 2011, setting the fastest time in his Red Bull around a smog-covered Shanghai circuit. Mark Webber was half a second off his team mate’s time, but that gap pales in comparison to the 2 second margin Sebastian had over the McLarens and the rest. Although practice sessions on Friday are generally used to perform a variety of simulations that may produce very slow laptimes, it was still impressive to see the RB7 run faultlessly throughout the morning session, as well as its speed on the back straight.Sebastian was optimistic of his team making ‘big improvements’ in China, and if that turns out to be true, Vettel’s dominance may be impossible to stop this weekend.

Mark Webber emerged the fastest driver around Sepang in the first practice session on Friday, just as he had done in Australia two weeks ago,  except that this time, his margin was a whopping 1.665 seconds over second placed Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren. And Webber’s championship leading team mate? Sebastian Vettel was 17th, behind Jarno Trulli’s Lotus. Hulkenberg and Maldonado were in the top five, and Vitaly Petrov was dead last in his Renault. While that might force you to think these times are meaningless, rivals will take Webber’s laptime very seriously indeed.

2011 Australian GP – Friday Practice 1 Results

Posted in Free Practice 1 Result on March 25, 2011 by Sundar Shankar

The first free practice session of the 2011 F1 season got off to an eventful start, with Lotus reserve driver Karun Chandhok slamming into the wall without completing a single lap. Eventually the RB7 of local boy Mark Webber prevailed, with a 1:26.831 lap set at the end of the session. His team mate, the current world champion Sebastian Vettel was second quickest with 1:27.158. Considering that Red Bull doesn’t usually show its hand until Saturday practice, the RB7 looks like it will be the quickest car in Australia, by some margin as well. However, the race will have enough unknown factors coming into play to render qualifying positions almost useless.
