Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel decimated the competition and blazed their way to a 1-2 in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix today. They were miles ahead of the opposition – the margin to the McLarens was one full second and the others were almost 2 seconds adrift. It also means that Sebastian Vettel’s domination of qualifying came to an end, with his team mate bettering his 1:21.181 lap with a blinding 1:20.981 time that put him on pole for the first time this season.

Another Saturday afternoon shootout, yet another pole position for Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull driver was way ahead of anyone else in Q2, and was simply too fast to be beaten in Q3. His lap of 1:25.019 was by far the quickest of the weekend, and was four tenths ahead of his team mate Mark Webber. Only Nico Rosberg was more impressive, dragging his Mercedes up to 3rd on the starting grid, just a tenth behind the much faster Red Bull of the Aussie. To put that lap in perspective, Michael Schumacher could manage only eighth fastest in Q3.

Sebastian Vettel has taken pole position for the Chinese GP tomorrow and if you raised an eyebrow on reading that, you must be new to F1 2011. He hasn’t been beaten in qualifying since Singapore last year. And without the engine failure in Korea, Singapore would’ve been the last time he was beaten in a race. But true to his style, the Q3 specialist pulled out a blinding seven tenths on his first run, with a 1:33.706 lap that was so far beyond everyone else that he was able to abort his second run.

Sebastian Vettel underlined his brilliance as a Q3 specialist once again, snatching pole position away from McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton in the dying moments of the qualifying session at Sepang. Mark Webber, despite showing immense pace in Friday practice, could do no better than third, ahead of Jenson Button. The final practice session in the morning led to speculation that the MP4-26 could now take the fight to the brilliant RB7, and the British car lived up to the expectations, pushing Red Bull every inch of the way in Q3.

Sebastian Vettel stormed to pole position for the Australian GP today with a crushing 1:23.529 lap that was well beyond anyone else, including his team mate Mark Webber. 8 tenths beyond in fact. What makes Sebastian’s lap even more impressive is that he wasn’t even using the KERS boost in the qualifying session whereas the McLaren and Ferrari drivers were literally standing on the button. Hamilton did extremely well to get second, after it looked like a Red Bull front row lockout for most of the session. Button lines up directly behind his team mate, underlining McLaren’s emphatic return to form.
