2011 Spanish GP – Race Analysis

Sebastian Vettel is in the midst of a humongous purple patch. Four pole positions this year, and now four wins and a second place. Doubts about Sebastian’s racecraft, especially when he was not on pole have been blown away. This was by far and away the hardest win of Vettel’s career, and no doubt, the most well deserved.  The Circuit de Catalunya’s 10 year record of the pole sitter winning the race fell by the wayside as the world champion emerged victorious after a dramatic Spanish GP. The young lad had to push his car to the limit for over 40 laps to defend his lead once jumped everyone at the pitstops.

2011 Spanish GP – Race Results

Sebastian Vettel won an absolutely scintillating Spanish GP ahead of the hard charging McLaren of Lewis Hamilton as the Pirelli tyres, DRS and KERS combined together to produce a cliffhanger of a race at the Catalunya circuit. The two cars fought for the lead in the final stint, and were nose-to-tail every inch of the way till the chequered flag fell. Jenson Button, who started fifth, uniquely ran a three-stop strategy to finish third, while Mark Webber, starting on pole position, lost two places at the start when he spent too much time defending from Vettel and was stuck behind Alonso for a long time.

2011 Turkish GP – Race Result

Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing eased to a comfortable win in the Turkish GP today, with Mark Webber in second making it the team’s first 1-2 of this season. The pole sitter was in complete control of the race and led almost every lap, reasserting his domination of this year’s championship. Fernando Alonso drove a fantastic race to haul the Ferrari up onto the final podium slot, getting his and the team’s first top 3  finish of 2011. He spent most of the race in second, before Mark Webber used his fresh set of tyres to overtake him with 7 laps remaining.

F1 2011 Round 04 – Turkish GP Preview

Welcome to Round 4 of the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship at Istanbul, Turkey. The DHL Turkish Grand Prix marks the end of the ‘flyaway’ races and a prelude to the European leg of the title race. The inaugural race at this venue was held back in 2005, and Kimi Raikkonen won the race in his McLaren-Mercedes. In 2005 and 2006 the race took place near the end of the European stint, before the Italian GP. Since then it has been moved up the calendar and has been more or less around the Spanish/Monaco GP dates. This is the first time however, that Istanbul Park is hosting its race before any of the European races.
